Hey! There has been a lot of buzz about this lately, so I thought I would make a journal entry based around it.
I’ve heard a lot of people tell me lately that they have gotten my artwork tattoo’d, thank you! I cannot tell you how happy it makes me to hear you enjoy my work on such a personal level. Most, if not all of you have contacted me and asked permission first which is truly something I have to thank you for. (I know a lot of other people who have NOT asked, and its saddening, in a way).
But here are some things I would like to bring to the table that have me a little concerned.
To start, I have not been charging individuals who want to get my piece tattoo’d. If you as a person see my work, fall in love with a piece, and love that enough to have it a part of your body, that’s amazing!
But I say individuals because I HAVE had people messaging me asking to put my design in their tattoo shops to sell for profit. this is not okay. Never have I accepted someones request to place my design in any of their shops, for any one to get tattoo’d. My throat goes into my stomach when I think about people getting my work tattoo’d on them, without knowing the background, who I am or even my name.
I have heard of people who have seen strangers, seemingly with my work tattoo’d who have NO idea who drew that picture, and have to be told it is from me.
So, my biggest concern right now is the integrity of my work. I want people to enjoy it and be inspired by it, but that it means I have to give up in my name in the process, I don’t think I can do that.
So here is a HUGE favor I am asking of you guys:
Please , if you ever see my work in a tattoo shop, or if someone you know has had it tattoo’d without at least knowing my name, it would mean the world to me to find out at least where it came from. That way you can contact me so I can ask them to remove it, or (if you would like to) contact them yourself ask that they stop profiting from it.
It’s a low, dirty thing for a shop to steal someones work and then charge someone else for that design.

New WIP titled “Diversity” or “Tango”, haven’t decided.
Inspired by the audacious idea to throw a bunch of animals into one picture, and hope for the best. You know, it was surprisingly difficult to think about what non-generic animals I could include. After I got past the obvious cat-dog-monkey-alligator-elephant-bird I suddenly realized how diverse the animal world really is, it’s really amazing.
Expect more updates on this picture within the next week!#artists on tumblr #corinne reid #Illustration #animals
Someone asked to see my process from start to finish. These photos arent the best progress shots, but they are images I saved at different points while working on this.
As you can see, my decisions towards the picture change consistently from start to finish. The amazing perk of working digitally is that I have the opportunity to make major changes to my images with a fraction of the work. (Although, that benefit is bitter sweet. My first concept is always a very weak one, I find more often than not I make some sort of change before the final.)
After step three, I had actually finished the first version of Hellen on the bottom before I changed her. It was a huge decision, considering how much time and patience I had put into it already. With the second Hellen in place, I fiddled around with different meaningful objects she could be interacting with, and chose to settle on an Akita (a dog she had owned in her lifetime).
The rest of the image fell into place after that. :)
Generally speaking though, this is usually how I work:
-Base Texture/color alterations (my base colors will change about 80% of the time after I lay down textures)
-Atmosphere (gradients, shadows, highlights)
- Texturestexturestextures/color alterations
-Final “10%” tweaks/slight blindness/sleep deprivation

#1 - Japanese Chin
They win best in show for WEIRDEST DOG EVER.
I still cant figure out whether I absolutely adore them or if they creep the living daylights out of me.
Anyway, I want to do more of these in between more serious projects, any dog suggestions?#Corinne Reid #art #Illustration #artists on tumblr #Dogs #Japanese Chin #Animals
Redid an old Catbus drawing I made a long time ago, for a friend who’s thinking about getting it tattoo’d. Its not technically “finished”, I just did the flat colors and it got late, plus I’ve really got to update this blog more often.
So here everyone, a late night Catbus!#corinne reid #art #Illustration #artists on tumblr #catbus #miyazaki #totoro
